Part II – Corrosion in HF Alkylation Units: Integrity Operating Windows

A novel, electrolytic thermodynamic model to simulate HF, Water, ASO (acid soluble oils) and Hydrocarbons interactions was created in a Joint Industry Project (JIP) by collecting literature experimental data and input from JIP members. In this spotlight, we will explore the importance of IOWs (Integrity Operating Windows) to create (or avoid) corrosive environments in the feed line to HF Alkylation Units’ Main Fractionators (Isostrippers, Depropanizers, etc.) and Overhead lines, as well as how to develop a safe and reliable operating envelope for the fractionation section of an HF Alkylation Unit.
