Mineral scaling is a serious problem that has a high impact on operation costs in the oil and gas production industry. With the advance of new exploration and production technologies to higher pressures the problems become more challenging. Ron Springer will discuss accurate scale prediction and its role in effective scale management. This includes predictions for “common” and “exotic” mineral scales. Typical conditions are discussed along with the recent extension of OLI software’s comprehensive thermodynamic model (MSE) to high temperatures (300 °C) and pressures (1,700 atm). Examples are given that illustrate how accurately the MSE model predicts the solubility of numerous mineral scales at various conditions.
