Mercury is a target element for removal from coal-derived flue gases due to its neurotoxic properties.  Mercury in elemental and vapor form is difficult to remove and requires additional chemical additives like oxidants and oxidation catalysts.  A.J. presented a flue-gas desulfurization operation and focused on the form of mercury in the unit, and how chemical additives may impact overall mercury removal
